The website

This blog really is just a shout out to my family. I recently started talking about setting up a blog to share my passion for refinishing, but also crafts, recipes, home decor and more. For about three or four months, I’ve toyed with the idea of sharing the process of decorating and crafting and refinishing and landscaping the new house and blogging about it. My family was always supportive of the idea. They never really showed much emotion either way, I guess. So, I assumed they thought it was just something I was going to do which was fine with me.

I talked to Mike about maybe getting an updated computer, maybe an iPad and he was supportive as well, but again, not to emotional either way. And I mean I’ve been talking for a while so what did I expect. But you know how Satan can work sometimes. And the doubts just kept creeping into my thoughts. I had prayed about it and journaled about it and thought about it constantly, but still I wasn’t really doing anything to move the dream forward to reality.

I remember calling Garrett, my oldest son, and telling him after journaling and praying that I felt God was telling me that my dreams were His dreams. And he was so excited for me! I mean, really excited. It was the first time anyone had really responded that way to the idea. He kept saying, “Go for it, Mom!” But again, the doubts just kept creeping in. And the excuses, oh, the excuses. It’s Christmas, we just moved, we’re so busy, etc., etc., etc, I can make excuses like nobody else. But then, the Night before Christmas...

Actually, it was two night before Christmas. But, my precious kiddos surprised me with a pretty, awesome Christmas present. I mean, they always get me something usually candles, home decor, new, soft blankets, gift cards, but this year, oh my....

An iPad. They got me an iPad. I couldn’t believe how excited I was over it. Tears welled up immediately as I ripped open the package and saw this fairly expensive gift. I mean, they are college kids and new homeowners and a high school student. They need those resources, but I loved it. I felt God was nudging me to get the show on the road. And then I took the next step... that’s when my heart truly was so full.

I had the equipment, now it was time to get the website up and running. My middle son, Nathan, jumped on his iPad and started searching for domain names and he showed me different websites to help build your own. He got to work doing the hard stuff, like everything really, but he just started putting titles here and images there. Our youngest, Jessica, started working on a logo and brand name. They asked a few questions here and there, but they just went after it.

And as I sat there and watched them, I was reminded of the story of Jesus sharing with His disciples that we should have faith like children. They weren’t worried about failure or mistakes, or having enough... they just acted. I was so moved as they worked together and asked each other to make changes and I told myself in that moment, I am going for it!

I laid in bed that night, thanking God for the way he uses people in our lives. My kids believe in me so much and I felt so very humbled and fortunate and just well pretty darn proud to be their momma. And I have to say, I love the finished product. I am so grateful for their help and although I know I need to learn it on my own, I won’t forget that this is truly a dream they helped make happen!

Thanks for believing in me! I hope I can share that with those of you who are out there wondering if you can do new things or try new ideas or make your old, favorite piece of furniture into the dream you have for it. Inspiration comes in all forms and you never know what that inspiration will inspire in you.
