Changing decor for the season

Isn't it fun when the seasons change. I look forward every year to the uniqueness of every one. From the blossoming flowers of spring and getting outdoors and landscaping to the excitement of the 4th of July and the decorating around the patio and outdoor living spaces of summer to the scents and colors of fall and decorating the front porch and finally to the sharp contrast and hectic bustle of winter and the holiday season!

I really enjoyed the look of the living room this season. Even though our house is unfinished, it was still one of my favorite looks this year.

I know the photos are dark, but I wanted the sparkling lights to show. The mantle was my favorite decorated piece this year.

So, I'm always a little blue when it's time to take down the Christmas decorations. But I really liked how it looks right now. I kept the black and white pieces from the Christmas decorations and replaced a few red pillows and blankets with whites and grays. To me that is what January is like with the black, grays and white. Days are short and it's dark in the morning when I get up and when I go to bed. The sky is often gray with the glittery white of frozen trees and grass. That's what I was trying to capture with my decorating and I think I did a good job. Here is the living room and mantle now.

I replaced the pine garland with this whitish green garland which reminds me of the frost on the trees and grass in the mornings. I kept the white poinsettias for now which are glittered on the edges and look very elegant in my opinion. Almost like ice on frozen flower petals. I replaced the silver and red ornaments with white, fuzzy ones that look like snowballs and are sparkly. I took down the sign and added candlesticks and that was it! I like how it captures the season and still has that sophisticated look. In a couple weeks, I'll add some red hearts to the garland and maybe add another garland or two to the mantle. I'll also add a little pop of red with pillows or maybe some diy craft projects to celebrate Valentine's Day. You'll see ...

Again, thanks for joining in and hope to hear from you. I'd love to know what you do after the holidays for your decorating. Do you jump right into Valentine's or do you celebrate January? Drop me a comment and let me know.
