After Christmas Sale

I love saving money. Whether it’s coupons, member savings or just a great sale, it is so exciting to me to see that total as it drops and drops with every savings applied. But there are some other more rare events that I love to participate in and try to as much as possible and those are... drumroll please... those lovely after-Christmas events. Bath and Body Works, Dillards, Maurice’s, Kohl’s, Michaels, but my favorite one, the one I’ll try to plan to attend as quickly as possible, the one where I chatter non-stop as we travel to the city from the sheer excitement, that one, is Hobby Lobby!

And they do not disappoint as was the case again this year. I had planned on going the 26th of December when the selection was biggest, but family was still at the house and I do, I swear it on my life, I love those people more than anything. But a good Hobby Lobby sale does warrant a second thought or back-up plans to try for both; however, if it doesn’t work out which is usually the case as the closest Hobby Lobby is a two hour drive, I’ll take time with the family over a good sale any day!

But this year it did work out that we could go December 30, so the hubby and I headed out yesterday for a few groceries and sale shopping in the city. We did need to check out some things at Home Depot for the basement project, but Hobby Lobby was still right at the top of the list. And I was looking forward to the rows and rows of items at clearance prices. We arrived about 1:00 or so on Thursday afternoon and although the rows and rows were much smaller than I had hoped, there were still some great finds to be had.

As you can see, these photo frames are in great shape and you can use them as is or in craft projects or home decor. I’m sure I’ll think of something for them, but for now the price was amazing at $1.69 and $1.79 respectively. Frames are great for art projects and I pick them up whenever I can find a great deal on them. You can always paint them, so colors and finishes don’t really matter as long as they are in good shape. And even broken ones, can be fixed fairly easy with wood glue sometimes. Those were not a part of the Christmas clearance, but they were on an end cap in the fabric section of the store and marked clearance.

Next, I picked up these tablecloths in the Christmas clearance section. They are 84 in x 60 in and heavy fabric. I probably won’t use them for tablecloths, but depending on trends (which buffalo check has been popular), I’ll probably just use them as material. At 80% off, the total for both was $10. That is quite a bit of fabric which can be used as pillows or tree skirt or napkins/placemats or even in craft projects with decoupage or an artwork background, the possibilities are endless.

These banners are more for next year to drape through the tree or use in a wreath, but they were an amazing price at $3.99 regularly making them 80 cents. They are fairly large so would take up a lot of space in a Christmas tree making quite a presentation. For the price, it's a great bang for the buck. I won't lie on this garland. It was that purply gray color that inspired this purchase. My guest room uses that color purple of the bedspread (you can see it in the background) and gray and I thought I could work this garland into a wreath or some art decor for that room. If not, that purple would be good in spring or Easter projects, so I got it. I love the red as well. I could easily see that draped through a Christmas tree or garland on the fireplace or outdoor wreaths and boughs. And red you can use year round, for Valentine's or 4th of July or even fall decorating, but the price was also too good to pass up. And for a $1.60, I didn't. In fact, they had silver, gold and white as well which I wish now I would have purchased as this product is so versatile in decorating and crafting.

I love this little piece. It is broken as you may be able to see, but that doesn’t mean it doesn’t have beauty in it’s future. It was $4.99 which I almost thought about not purchasing, but I am a sucker for ampersands and letters. One of my favorite home deco touches. The metal word ‘you,’ I already have plans for in a Valentine project, but that will be for another blog. Be sure to check it out!

I was really excited to find such a great selection of picks this year. I use them in trees, wreaths, floral arrangements and you can even cut them apart for smaller craft projects. They are really a versatile piece, but the selection was great this year. The red ones were regularly $6.99 which made them $1.40 and the white ones were a little more at $8.99 regular making them $1.80 each. The gold and silver ones were $9.99, so for $2 you could grab several. They had many different varieties and colors. Mostly, gold, silver, white, red, but some turquoise, purple, greens and pinks.

Napkins. I didn’t have any napkins this year for Christmas dinner, so we used paper towels. I think it scarred me a little because these are really not my style, but I still grabbed two packages. They only had two different styles remaining, these and some square ones that were plain white, smaller and said Merry Christmas. I grabbed these because I think it was on my mind that I didn’t have any this year, but they are kind of novel with the circular shape. They may be cute in a decoupage project though, maybe on wooden discs for ornaments or layered through some garland. They were only $1.20, so still a great deal.

I grabbed these for the fireplace mantel. I don’t plan on keeping it as is with the buffalo plaid, but plan to wrap some eucalyptus around the wire frame for year round interest or maybe garland for small Christmas trees or both. We’ll see how this plays out. They came in different sizes. I got the smaller ones, but looking back I wish I would have gotten the larger one and a smaller one for interest. But I didn’t, so we will make these work. Again, the regular price was $5.99 for the smaller one and $7.99 for the bigger one. I only got the smaller one with a sale price of $1.20. Now, I wish I’d have gotten two of each... I could do this all day, woulda, coulda, shoulda.

This last piece I will definitely be changing. It is really not my style and it is damaged as you can see in the picture, but I love that it is a piece with interaction especially when kids will be around. I don’t use too many pieces that are animated or cartoony, but thought this would work with some gingerbread ornaments I had made years ago when my kids were small. They were made from applesauce and cinnamon and I love the smell of those ornaments even to this day. We didn’t paint faces on them, but gave them buttons and squiggles for cuffs on hands and feet. I plan on having a small tree in the kitchen again next year and thought this could go with it, maybe on the coffee bar. I will probably paint the number blocks red instead of the green, not sure about that right now. That is for a future blog. Anyways, it was on sale from $19.99 to $4.00, so all in all it was a pretty great deal even if I do a lot of changes.

What a fun day it was catching all those deals. Love, love love!! If you have a little extra time and money after Christmas, get out and see what you can find. What creations have you got in mind for any purchases you’ve already made? I’d love to see your ideas and get to know you all better. Thanks for reading and I hope I’ll hear from you.
